Become the 8th Baron and Baroness of Elston

1st Baron – Osbern de Giffard is granted the barony after his support with the conquest of England.  The barony contains lordships from Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Somerset.  He builds a castle at Brimpsfield, Gloucestershire.  He is granted the “right of gallows” and exercises this regularly.

5th Baron – Sir Elias de Giffard side with the rebel barons against King John.  His lands including Elston are confiscated but returned when King Henry takes the throne.

6th Baron – Sir John de Giffard is appointed joint Keeper of Gloucester, Worcester and Herefordshire.  Sir John controls Kenilworth Castle and attacks nearby Warwick castle destroying it and taking the Earl and Countess of Warwick as prisoners.  Later he is captured at the Battle of Lewes, so he changes sides.  Sir John fights with King Henry at the Battle of Evesham and for his service is pardoned.  Sir John fights at the Battle of Orewin Bridge which deals a decisive blow to the Welsh effectively making Wales joined with England for the first time.
