Lineage of Holders

1./      Sir Stephen Manekyn – who held knights service of the barony of Fobert

2./      Richard Walsham and Alice, daughter of Sire Stephen Manekyn

3./      William, son of Nicholas Archer of Dover in anno 17 Edward III

4./      In the 21^st year of the next reign of king Richard II the manor was sold to John Alkham of Alkham.

5./      Latter end of king Edward IV, the manor became the property of Roger Appleton

6./      It passed to Hobday

7./      And then to Thomas Harman of Crayford

8./      It was sold to Sir James Hales

9./      Around the middle of Queen Elizabeth’s reign it was alienated to Andres, of Dover.

10./    Some years later the manor was sold to Pepper

11./    In king James I’s reign Pepper conveyed the manor to Sir Thomas Wilford, of Ilden.

12./    In king Charles I’s reign it passed to Mar William Richards, of Dover

13./    Ad it then descended to his nephew John Sladden, of Dover

14./    Then it passed to his sister, Mary, who carried in marriage to Mr Thomas Fagge, of Dover.

15./    Who’s trustees after his death sold it in 1783 to Thomas Biggs, of Dover

16./    Early 19^th century it was the residence of the Worthingtons, of Dover.

17./    Later in the 1890s the Manor House became the home of Mr Dawes who ran the Diamond Brewery

18./    Early in the 20^th century the manor and title were held by Major Augustos Munn FRHS

The site of the manor house, which was demolished I the first half of the 20^th century, was occupied by a filling station.  The site is now a residential area and today a 3-storey block of residential flats known as Maxton Court occupies the original site of the manor.

The Title in name of the Lordship of the Manor of Maxton Court (which held Court Baron) has been re-established by legal process with the Covenant of Quiet Enjoyment and its two associated rights.
