Become the 11th Baron and Baroness of Swanscombe

1st Baron – Odo, Bishop of Bayeux who is half brother to William the Conqueror is also known as a warrior and as a statesman receives substantial lands in England including Swanscombe for his contribution to the conquest.  He is also created Earl of Kent.  Whilst William visits Normandy Odo is appointed Regent of England.

2nd Baron – Geoffrey Talbot is also appointed Constable of Rochester Castle.

3rd Baron – Also Geoffrey Talbot sides with king Stephen in the civil war.  Geoffrey switches sides and with empress Mad takes the town of Hereford.  He launches an attack on Bath only to be captured whist scouting.  He is freed by Stephens forces.  Upon Geoffrey’s death Swanscombe is divided into two moieties (shares)

Joint 4th Baronesses – Geoffrey’s nieces Cecily (wife of Roger Fitz Miles) and Agnes (wife of Warin de Mountchesney. Roger Fitz Miles becomes leader of the Angevin party in England.  Roger’s father dies and Roger and Cecily become Earl and Countess of Hereford.

Joint 5th Baron – Sir William de Mountchesney acts as one of the guarantors between King John and the Count of Flanders.

7th Baron – Warin de Mountchesney had a 33 military career.

8th Baron – William de Mountchesney is one of the chief commanders at the Battle of Lewes.  William dies whilst besieging the Castle of Drosselau.

10th Baron – Sir Aymer de Valence 2nd Earl of Pembroke was appointed the King’s Lieutenant in Scotland.
